Reasons to Take the Drug and Alcohol Course

DTA's drug and alcohol course has been designed specifically for Florida teens and provides the following benefits:

  • Fulfills TLSAE requirement for first time drivers – §322.095, F.S. states that all first time drivers in Florida who have never been licensed in another state or country must provide proof of completion of a State-approved drug and alcohol course when they apply for their driver license. This 4-hour DHSMV approved course fulfills that requirement.
  • Educates drivers about the dangers of using drugs / alcohol and driving – The purpose of the course is to educate young drivers about the dangers of driving after using drugs and / or alcohol. The course also teaches basic concepts of defensive driving and Florida traffic law. These areas are critical for Florida teens to understand in order to be safe, accident-free drivers.

Who Does Not Need the Florida Drug and Alcohol Course

Any drivers who have been licensed in another U.S. state are not required to take the Florida teen driver drug and alcohol course. Drivers who have been licensed in another country might have to complete the course, depending on the licensing standards of the country in which they were licensed.
